Sand and lost wax casting

About the Collier Webb Foundry

We make cast brass lighting, hardware and furniture in antique and contemporary styles for leading designers and clients worldwide at our Eastbourne foundry and workshops. Combining traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, we have created an extensive range of furniture mounts, floor, wall and ceiling lights and door hardware. Our foundry produces casts in bronze, brass, copper, lead and aluminium. Our machine and sheet metal workshops also work with steel which means that the vast majority of our work can be completed out in-house.

As part of our expansion programme, we welcome applications from non-ferrous metalworkers who are able to work with minimum supervision to the high standards required in manufacturing our Gallery and Foundry ranges of products. Good skills in manual milling, turning, soldering and fabrication are required and experience of working with brass is desirable.

In return, we offer attractive hourly rates in a pleasant working environment with opportunities to work on many interesting and creative projects.

We are a British company and a family business that has been manufacturing brass, bronze, aluminium and silver castings in Sussex for over 35 years.   Founded by the late Cedric Collier who had initially practised casting as a hobby, he began by producing handles and brass mounts for the antique trade. His calling card proudly stating: ‘ Cedric Collier, One Man Band’.

Gradually progressing from humble beginnings working in an ancient barn, he was soon joined by his son Geoff.  Over the next decade, the company grew in size and reputation to become one of the foremost manufacturers of cast decorative items in the country.  Cedric’s calling card proudly stated: ‘One Man and his Band’. His daughter Sheila was recruited to manage the office and accounts.

By the time Cedric had retired, the level of sales had risen to the point where larger premises were required and with Geoff at the helm, the move to our current Unit 2 building in Eastbourne took place in 2005.  In 2011, to further cope with  increased demand, the adjacent Unit 4 was acquired to house the latest CNC machinery and a purpose built wiring room. Geoff’s daughter Dani joined full time as his personal assistant and receptionist.

The band that Cedric created has now grown to over 40 members and with Geoff wielding the baton, the foundry is fully equipped to sustain its growth in the future.

As part of our 2016 expansion programme, we have created new office space for our four full-time CAD Designers and Project Managers. In 2017, we purchased an additional 8000 sq.ft unit nearby which is now home to our CNC machine and sheet metal workshops. The transfer of the machines from Unit 4 has allowed us to create new space for assembly and despatch.

Using Cedric’s and Geoff’s experience of perfecting the traditional techniques of lost wax and sand casting, we have been able to produce a range of over 800 specialised products. Architectural hardware, furniture mounts and lighting ranges have been specially tailored to assist restorers, architects and interior designers with projects worldwide. Geoff Collier is Director and General manager of the foundry and Andrew Webb joined in 2011 to become Sales Director at our London gallery in Pimlico Road, the capital’s premier interior design district. The foundry’s products are displayed on this site but the gallery’s designer range of lighting, furniture and hardware can be seen on:

Since our inception, we have acquired a vast amount of knowledge and experience of antique restoration and bespoke metal working methods. This means that there is virtually no limit to the range of interesting products and designs that we can create in bronze, brass and steel.

Our foundry is situated in Eastbourne on the South Coast of England and the majority of our work is completed in-house by our team of skilled craftsmen using traditional techniques. Our policy of employing apprentices ensures that these skills will not vanish and will be passed on to future generations. In addition to casting, we also provide machining, metal working, assembling, polishing, colouring and electroplating services.

For jobs and components requiring maximum accuracy, we have a well equipped CNC machine shop with two state-of-the-art mills – with 4 and 5 axis tables – and a CNC lathe. Where required, this allows us to utilise the capabilities of all our departments to create items that combine the visual and tactile qualities of classical pieces with the accurate fit and functionality expected in the highest quality new products.
